ANNOTATION:

The paper discusses the factors specifying the current state of radioactive waste deep disposal project in terms of its scientific support. The paper provides an overview of main principles and key areas of relevant R&D program, including activities that are to be performed in the underground research laboratory, required for the safety case development and safety assessment at all stages of repository life cycle.
