ANNOTATION:

The article evaluates the current use of robotic systems (RS) in the decommissioning of a legacy radiation hazardous facility and specifies the aspects restricting their large-scale implementation. The article describes the tests of the ROIN RTS R-100 and Betonolom-2000 dismantling systems manufactured in the Russian Federation at the Moscow branch of FSUE RADON that confirmed the operability of the equipment and the high potential for its further implementation given proper adaptation to the decommissioning tasks at hand. The paper specifies the technical parameters for various operations and presents the calculated performance indicators for the hydraulic hammer. It provides recommendations on further efforts that are expected to enhance the efficiency of the equipment and were formulated based on the practical results achieved to date. The paper notes that the RS efficiency is influenced by numerous factors with the operator’s qualifications and skills being of greatest importance, which should be considered in the decommissioning work planning. It highlights the prerequisites for further RS introduction considering the achieved safety level and lower negative impact of harmful production factors on the personnel.

Keywords: dismantling, robotic systems, nuclear decommissioning, in-situ testing, efficiency assessment, hydraulic attachments, operator’s qualification, radioactive waste.
