DEVELOPMENT OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE REMOVAL, CONDITIONING AND PACKAGING OF DISUSED SEALED RADIATION SOURCES FROM WELL TYPE LONGTERM STORAGE FACILITIES AT THE EKORES SPECIALIZED ENTERPRISE

The paper provides recommendations on the retrieval, conditioning and packaging of disused sealed radiation sources stored in well-type storage facilities at the site of specialized Unitary Enterprise Ekores. The recommendations take into account the main regulatory requirements regulating safe disposal of radioactive waste (RW) in the Republic of Belarus including the classification system covering RW and sealed radiation sources, the correspondence of the RW type with the disposal method, the radiation characteristics of RW, containers and packaging for RW disposal. It presents the flowcharts comprising interrelated management operations for various types of disused sealed radiation sources, which are recommended to bring the RW into compliance with the acceptance criteria for disposal.
