JOURNAL: 2026, ¹ 2 (35), p. 102-109

ANNOTATION:

The paper elaborates on the development of a detection system proposed as an essential component of an automated continuous-flow mechanical system designed for radioactively contaminated soil sorting. It compares various types of gamma spectrometers to determine the specific activity of radionuclides in such soil. It also presents the optimized  designs of the detection system for the selected NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors based on the criterion of minimum detectable activity compared against regulatory limits. The theoretical and calculation studies yielded an engineering design of a prototype detection system.

Keywords: radioactively contaminated soil, radioactive waste, soil sorting, gamma spectrometry, measurement methods.
