ABOUT THE CHIEF EDITORBolshov Leonid Aleksandrovich – Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor awarded with USSR State Prize for Science and Technology, Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in Science and Technology, Scientific Director of the Nuclear Safety Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IBRAE RAS). Born in 1946 in Moscow, he graduated from the Physics Department of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov (Moscow State University) in 1970. In 1973, he defended his thesis. In 1982, he defended doctoral thesis and was awarded a title of Doctor of Physics and Mathematics. In 1985, he was awarded the academic title of professor, in 1997 – elected as a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences becoming its full member in 2016. L.A. Bolshov is considered as a major specialist in the field of nuclear power safety and thermal processes under high energy flows. Since May 1986, Professor Bolshov was heading a group of researchers from the Atomic Energy Institute named after I.V. Kurchatov taking an active part in the post-accident clean-up at the Chernobyl NPP site. Since 1991, he has been running the Nuclear Safety Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Under his leadership, custom-build approach focused on the theoretical analysis of severe accidents using modern computer technologies was developed. It was based on detailed physical models of individual processes developed during the establishment of large software systems (codes) describing various phases of severe accidents. These models and codes have been tested along with other similar international codes under a number of international experiments performed in the US, Germany and France. They gained credence among nuclear safety experts around the world and are actively used in a number of organizations in our country and abroad. Achievements of L.A. Bolshov associated with strategic planning in the field of SNF, RW management and nuclear decommissioning gained wide recognition. He is the author of over 400 scientific papers with 11 monographs published. Doctor Bolshov is a teaching professor (head of the base department of MIPT) with 23 candidates and 8 doctors of sciences who defended their thesis under his mentorship. L. A. Bolshov is editorial board member of the Atomic Energy Journal, chairman of the editorial board of the Arctic Journal: Ecology and Economics, member of the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council (STC) of the State Corporation Rosatom, member of the STS of Rosenergoatom Concern, member of the Expert Council of the Russian Ministry of Emergence Situations, chairman of the STC No. 10 “Ecological, Nuclear and Radiation Safety” of the State Corporation Rosatom. L. A. Bolshov was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevskiy, Order of Courage, Order of Honor, Order of Friendship and a number of departmental awards. e-mail: bolshov@ibrae.ac.ru Scopus Author ID: 7005057296 Web of Science Researcher ID: 2325579 RISC: 23000 | ||||||||||||||||
