STORAGE FACILITIES FOR SPECIAL RW AND RW DISPOSAL FACILITIES: TASKS FOR THE INFORMATION SUPPORTJOURNAL: 2026, ¹ 2 (35), p. 17-30
AUTHORS: I.I. Linge, M.V. Vedernikova
ANNOTATION:
The paper considers the future agenda for the information support of activities focused on the safety of facilities for special RW (SRWF), isolation facilities for special RW (SRWIF) and RW disposal facilities (RWDF) at the pre-closure and post-closure stages. To justify the considered tasks, the paper evaluates regulatory requirements concerning the safety assessment and sets forward certain proposals regarding further development of information support particularly focused on the safety barriers (SB) and monitoring of their evolution following SRWF isolation and RWDF closure, which is seen to validate the accomplished long-term safety assessments and support the implementation of certain corrective measures, if necessary. In particular, the paper highlights the following tasks: description of data categories considered critical when assessing the current state of SRWIF and RWDF safety barriers at the post-closure stage, which are integrated into the Digital Information Models (DIM) at the final stages of the life cycle, as well as methods and technologies enabling their periodic radiation monitoring. It also proposes certain steps required to achieve the ultimate goals of information support.
Keywords: radioactive waste, digital information model, disposal, control, radiation safety, long-term safety assessment, monitoring data.
